THE BUILD UP!
I collaborated with the RawMinds Ambassadors group at the Wellcome collection to design and build four installation/set design/sculptures for an event exploring the nature of place and space in the main museum gallery spaces. The installations were performative and participatory. Their structures were based around a school's exam hall, a commercial shopping space, a tree and a home space. As well as being on hand to help design, I prepared and co-facilitated workshops during January and February 2019.
THE DESIGN
The concepts for the designs were developed with the young people as well as facilitators Peju Oshin and Anna Firbank. The ideas and initial sketches are in the images below.
The final designs and photos from the event in question are below.
The photos are the artist's own. Many thanks to Clare Carlin (Head Youth Co-ordinator), Christian Kingham (Wellcome Gallery Manager), Joe Richards (Gallery technician and carpenter), Harriet Gillet (Scenic painter) and Gabriel Akamo (Scenic painter).
